A friend and I rode up to Clarksdale, MS about six weeks ago to hear some blues. We stayed at the “Shack Up Inn”. They have old sharecropper cabins they moved in. They are old, but super clean and comfortable. They have a restaurant and bar there. We had an appetizer and some beers while we listened to some music.
Then we went to “Ground Zero” Blues Club. Morgan Freeman is a co-owner of Ground Zero. It is also located in an old cotton gin. As it was cold out, so we took them up on a limo service they have available. You give them a call and they come pick you up and drop you off at the club. We listened to the band, had supper and some beers.
A little later we walked about a block to “Red’s Juke Joint”. “Big A and the All Stars” were playing. They put on quite a show, it was outstanding.
Sounds wonderful. Love the blues. I was just in the car listening to a local program on the jazz station called "Fog City Blues". Lots of old time blues. Real nice.
I love Ground Zero, it's about as funky as it gets. My name is on the first pool table by the side pocket nearest the window. How about you? Did you visit the Delta Blues Museum too? That is a favorite.
For those who have never been, they are 200 foot apart across a dirt lot. Also Grandslams photo of the highway 61/49 w/ blue guitar can be had as a pin at the museum. And the club has both a poster and a sticker of the neon Blues Club sign. One of which is on my basement wall over my own pool table.
I really love riding the Natchez Trace and visiting Clarksdale, ah, but not in summer.
