I go through Missouri to KC and then I take one of three routes according to the weather.
36 across Kansas then up the western side of Nebraska,
I 29 up to highway 2 across mid Nebraska to western side of state.
Last choice is I 29 up to I90 and across SD, I90 can get real crazy so my very last choice

It depends what you are looking for on your trip. Do you want to take your time and enjoy the journey or get to Sturgis as fast as you can. I take I-90 and get there as fast as possible. The speed limit is 80 MPH. I prefer getting to the Black Hills as fast as possible so I have more time to ride the beautiful hills and enjoy Sturgis. Where I live it's very flat so I want to experience the beautiful riding in the Black Hills. I also go every year so the faster I can get there the better.

Good luck and have fun. You will love it.

Ride safe.

It'll take more than just 36 to get 'em there

It looks like giacomo56 route takes you thru Nebraska sand hills. That is a great ride. Take Nebraska 2 up to 385 thru Alliance to Chadron. Once you hit South Dakota it 4 lane all the way to Sturgis. You can bale off on SD 36 and thru Custer City to Rushmore or Custer ST park. Lots of good rides in that area. You could even swing by the the Badlands. After leaving the Sand Hills. His route looks good to me. I wouldn't come clear down to KC. Just to go back up north. Not much in KC but the Royals and BBQ.

Also leaving from Northern Indiana. Will be 1st time to Sturgis. Giacomo's map looks like US 24 into Peoria & US 20 from Waterloo, IA to Chadron, NE. Sounds good. I want to avoid Chicago and probably I-90 also.

You're right. The Sandhills are further south. I came back that way last year. I highly recommend it.
