That is really too bad about your friend. So sorry.

I might be riding the Natchez trace next Wednesday. Anybody have suggestions for great BBQ along the way?

The best part of the Trace is up near Nashville. Lots of nice sweeping curves and hills. One word of warning however is DO NOT SPEED on the Trace. The road itself is a national park and speeding tickets are $600+.

Atticus, at the Nashville end there is a gas station there that has some pretty good BBQ. We stop there every time we ride up on the trace.

Condolences regarding your friend.

The Trace is something I've been wanting to do for a while. I'll be in TN later this month, hopefully I'll ride a piece of it while I'm down there.

Your chosen route and destinations look great!

Excellent. Any idea on the name of the place, or is it just easy to find?

At this link: https://www.nps.gov/natr/index.htm if you go to the MAPS icon (bottom, 3rd from right) there is a 4-part, 3 state PDF collection of maps for the entire NT. I printed all in color. They look like they'll be useful on my trip...leaving Monday if the weather holds.

Ive got a question about the Trace and hope I can drop it in here since a number of you have ridden the Trace recently. I rode it in May, 2011. Two weeks earlier a series of tornados went through the area. I had been riding north under the canopy of trees for hours, and then all of a sudden I was out in the open for 1/4 mile, with every tree broken. It was like a picture after a nuclear explosion. Then we were back under the canopy. A little later the same thing happened for an 1/8 of a mile.

I was wondering what those areas look like now. It was eerie when I was there. The road was clear but nothing much had been done yet with all the broken trees. How is it now?

I live near the north end of the Trace just outside of Nashville. At the very end of it is The Loveless Cafe. It is an outstanding restaurant and great place to visit. A small town just south of there is Liepers Fork, with a restaurant in Puckett's Grocery Store. Its a nice country grill. You will see a parking lot full of motorcycles there on any given day.

As mentioned, the last (Northern) leg of the Trace is very hilly and lots of sweeping turns. Probably the last 8-10 miles of it. Its an awesome place to ride, if you like country scenery.

Sorry to hear about the unfortunate accident. RIP

The part you are asking about is marked with a sign regarding tornados and the damage in 2011. There are plenty of broken and dead trees but there are other trees growing up to fill the empty spaces. Enjoy your ride.

So sorry to hear about your friend and the others. We live in central MS not far from the Trace. I love to ride it, but my husband doesn't care for it that much. I just think it is beautiful and relaxing, however, I was disappointed when we rode to Nashville that the fun curves near the terminal point there had a speed limit of something like 40 or 45. Never saw a ranger. Sure would have been fun to zoom through those curves!.....We have so many wonderful roads here. There are lots of curves through the hills of Yazoo County where we live and then there is the flat straight delta land. Thanks for visiting our state!!
