Today (day 5) was a much less "comfortable" day to ride! Temps never got above the mid 50s and at least half the day we rode in pouring rain! Both of us were dressed in layers and even wore our rain gear when it was NOT raining as an extra windbreak, so we weren't cold. But the damp worked its way in under everything and we were mighty glad to get out of all the layers, into a hot shower, and finally into dry comfort! You should see the motel room with every possible surface draped with damp clothing.....
That said, it was still a great day! We continued to ride the Quebec coastline most of the day.... dozens of charming, tiny villages right on the water's edge.... lighthouses at intervals, like this old beauty at Cape Madeleine.... A stroll at noon through the old downtown of the town of Gaspe where we discovered a little cafe stocked with the perfect lunch to share between us --- a baguette, a wedge of creamy Brie Cheese, a fresh fruit and cream tart.
Every single little community has a charming rest stop for travelers with picnic tables, benches, bathrooms, and some even with picnic shelters. About 2:00 p.m. with a break in the weather we pulled in to use the rest stop, and my wife grabbed a dry bench to stretch out and ease the riding kinks. A 10-minute power nap can do such wonders for a tired rider! Thankfully, we got that little rest, as the sky soon opened up and we rode in downpour the rest of the way. We crossed a river separating Quebec and New Brunswick at 4:30 p.m., hunkered down and powered on for another hour and a half to get to our room in Petit Rocher, NB.
Tomorrow, we will take the bridge over to explore Prince Edward Island, and a ferry across from there to Nova Scotia the next day. See attached map.
