Thinking about heading to Colorado Monday 9/26. Staying in Durango.
Plan on riding the MDH, etc.
Any advice regarding road conditions, weather and any must ride roads is appreciated.
Did the million dollar highway this summer. Lotsa traffic and there was an accident - motorhome tried jumping off the side. We did north to south. Slow n steady - scenic as heck though. There was a pull out at the summit with a placard showing the Million Dollar Highway and the elevation. Good photo op of your motorcycle there.
We stayed in the Stater Hotel in Durango. It was nice. The steam train was cool. There looked like some good eats nearby. There was a cool beer joint in the basement across the street and down the block. They had a great selection of taps. Can't remember the name.
We went to the four corners the next day. Wished we did monument valley instead. It was 110F and not really my thing. $10 x 2 to go see it. Many did.
Stayed in Las Vegas that night. Long haul - a semi truck rolled over on the interstate with hazardous material. Slooooooow to open highway. Hot and standing in the sun a while.
Won a bit in Vegas. So...
Have a great ride. Check the weather as it's getting closer and closer to October. (I'd think snow is just around the corner...)
Forecast says Silverton may see 6 inches of snow on Thursday night - Friday, but Saturday looks warmer and sunny. You may want to check conditions before you head up.
I rode from Ouray to Cortez, then Cortez to Telluride and then back into Ouray for pizza. The San Juan Skyway or Colorado Skyway is what they call that loop, consisting of 276 gorgeous miles.
That was in June though....no snow chains required. LOL

If it snows, rent a Jeep!
The loop is one of my frequent rides 3-4 times a year. I was hoping for a color run one last time this year.
Skies are pretty cloudy right now in the Durango area, and it sure looks like snow, or at least rain. It is 48 degrees right now in Bloomfield, NM, 60 miles south and 5,000 ft. lower than MDH. It might not be a great weekend to be riding in the Colorado Rockies.
dude. you can ride almost anywhere from there and it is awsome.
The things I "have" to do when in that area on 2 wheels are:
ride 160 through wolf creek pass
ride 50 through blue mesa resavour and montrose pass
stay the night in gunnison because for some reason i think it is just the coolest little town
