My wife and I rode with a group in 2014 from LA through to Cabo San Lucas. The first day in Mexico we were all murdered and our motorcycles were stolen. Wait, hold on...my wife said that didn't happen. She loved the trip, the Baja was beautiful and the worst part of the trip was the 405 out of LA.
Seriously, Mexico like any country depends on where and what time.
