Default Avoiding LA Traffic

March trip to LA to see the new grandson and ride the PCH to SF. I will be staying in the West Hollywood, Mulholland and N. Beverly Glen area. My question is how do I avoid LA traffic to get to W. Hollywood. I will be coming in on I10 from Arizona.

Avoid traffic in LA. The only way I know is to not go anywhere.

There is no way to avoid traffic in LA when in any part of Hollywood, if you were skirting it to get to PCH we could help you.

This is what I was asking how to skirt the traffic to get to the west Hollywood area as I am coming into LA via I10. Thanks for all suggestions. Need to see this little man.

We did what you are discussing last summer. Our day into LA we were coming from Palm Springs, road into town around 2 PM. Just followed the GPS, no major traffic but some time in town on the streets with red lights getting to West Hollywood. Overall I felt we got in with no problem.

When we left two days later, similar experience, we took one of the Boulevards to Santa Monica to ride PCH starting at the pier. No crazy traffic, just a fair amount of red lights, nothing to loose your mind over. That was a week day leaving WH around 8 AM.

For us, we got in and out clean, no nightmares at all. But we are form NYC, maybe we have a high tolerance. Not sure what kind of traffic you see in North Texas.

Rent a helo & have them "sling" you & the bike overhead.

JK, seriously, unless you ride in/out at the non-peak 1-2 hours per day...there's no avoiding traffic there. Was stationed in CA back in 88-91 & drove South to visit relatives many times...LA/Hollywood area sucks a$$. Just be patient & cautious.

So it is the same as Dallas traffic. You may hit it and never slow down or might be walking your way through it. I have all the traffic on the XM navigation so I just need to shut up and ride. I am sure I will run into the same problems while in SF.

You can't avoid traffic on the west side, but you can pick your spots. Morning rush hour starts around 7:00 and lets up a bit after 10. Afternoon starts up around 2:00, stays busy until 7. But it pretty much stays busy until 10 on weekends. Summer months are busier, and Thanksgiving thru New Years it's insane.

You're on a bike, so you can lane-split. It's not as scary as everyone thinks if you use some common sense. And the traffic on your phone/gps is a big help. But yeah, just shut up and ride. You'll get through it

San Francisco traffic makes LA look like Lubbock at 2 in the morning.

Not sure about Lubbock, but SF was worse then LA, in all directions. Good luck, still better then being at work.

What traffic? California allows lane splitting & filtering.. makes it fun!
