I posted this in the Southeast regional section and only got one hit, hoping the Mods will leave it here for a bit so I can get a few more answers...thank you!
Greetings, heading down to Orlando soon and meeting family for a Disney vacation. I'm gonna trailer my bike down (gotta bring extra things for the family vacation so I need the truck) to Shades of Green on Disney property, spend a week with the family then spend the next week riding Florida, visiting family and friends and just riding the Sunshine State. I've heard it's a "little" warm in Fl. in July so my tentative plan is to then trailer from Orlando to the Great Smoky Mountain area, find a hotel/motel and tour that area for 3-4 days using the motel as base camp. Any recommendations on hotels/motels that won't have a problem with me parking the truck/trailer on their property while I tour, I'll be returning to the hotel every night and staying there. Need something safe and secure with clean decent rooms, don't need 5 star but something nice, maybe with restaurants near. I'd also like an area where I can spend 3-4 days and have plenty to see and do...ANY recommendations and input will be greatly appreciated. I'm also thinking about, after leaving the GSM area heading North for another 2-3 day stop along the way, I was in Staunton VA. awhile back so maybe in that area or if someone can recommend someplace else along the way North that would be great. Thanks in advance...
Can't be a whole lot of help, but I just came back from that area. On our way back from Nashville we stopped And spent the night in gatlinburg at a Hilton garden inn. They had a decent sized lot, so I would imagine you could park a truck and trailer.
Friends of mine recommended getting a cabin, but I opted for a hotel so I could use points for a free stay.
While your there, run the dragon so you can say you did it. (It's OK) but the cherahola skyway is MUCH nicer. Also run rte 441, that's a nice road too.
Maggie Valley lots of biker friendly motels. Smoky Falls lodge is where we stayed plenty of room for truck & trailer plus a covered area for parking bikes at night.
Yup, Maggie Valley and Cherokee both have good accommodations that are not too expensive and are close to the Great Smokeys the Dragon and the start of the Blue Ridge Pkwy.
Awesome place! We've stayed here for the last 6 years in a row. Barry & Linda are the owners and they will really make you feel at home. Each room has it's own little garage attached to the room for your bike nightly storage. Can't beat it! Dry county, just FYI, if that's your thing.
The Tail Of The Dragon is great and a must, but the other roads around there are simply amazing.
The Dragon, Cherohala Skyway, Foothills Parkway to name a few rides, if you go to Maggie Valley I would suggest you go to Wheels Through Time Motorcycle Museum, the owner Dale Walksler will fire up some of the old bikes from time to time, very neat and interesting place to visit!
I like staying in Gatlinburg due to the night life. My favorite reasonably priced hotel is the River Terrace Resort. You can get a room overlooking the river and park your bike right outside your door. https://www.westgatedestinations.com...vention-center
I recommend staying in Maggie Valley. Check out Trip Advisor reviews for the best hotels. Or if you don't mind a dry county look at some of the biker friendly motels near Robbinsville. The Iron Horse Lodge is popular. There is too much traffic congestion in Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge to use that as a base of operations in my opinion.
Maggie Valley is a lot easier, getting in & out. Gatlinburg if you get out by 730 am it's ok, but getting back in bumper to bumper traffic all over the place plus pedestrian. Run the Dragon on a week day, weekends have a lot of stupid people on it, plus tourists. Best Western in Maggie Valley is nice, Enjoy your ride
