Missouri ride about
When I left west on 36 from Hannibal and all the way to the western border it was all 4 lane expressway. I still saw many small towns and rolling terrain.
The speed limit was 65 and only a few towns where the limit was lower so I got to the border sooner than planned. I went north along border on Interstate 29 to US route 136 which crosses the state east to west.
Stopped along the way at a Mcdonald's where the Mcdoubles were still $1 and senior drink was still $0.50. Here they are $1.29 and $0.65. Gas was $1.989/gal. I think I should move there.
Somewhere going north was a house that the front yard was full of oversized metal creations. One was a shot gun with about a 20 foot barrels. Didn't have a camera.
136 was a more interesting road with many hills, twists and turns. Had to keep an eye out as through the towns the road took right or left turns frequently as it shared with other roads.
The many small towns were in bad conditions. Many closed motels, service stations and homes with various stages of falling down. They seemed to be losing population and no jobs to attract other residents.
136 on the east end goes through Keokuk, Iowa for a couple of miles before going over a bridge into Illinois. It is a larger city but the residential areas were in bad condition with many empty deteriorating homes for block after block. Very depressing. !36 got me close to home with just a short run on a local road.
If you want a good ride on local highways route 136 is a good one for motorcycles.
