Canadian side is better, I live on the western end of Lake Erie, Mayflies here can be terrible, Dunno about the east end, when we went, to the Falls, never saw them, but some places ,like Port Clinton, have used front end loaders to remove them. Dusk, and night are the worst time for them, attracted to lights also, people turn lights off at night ,or house will be covered

riding to the Falls is always my first long ride of the year , late April or early May depending on the weather . since they opened the casino it's a bit busier that time of year but not bad . used to be very quiet that early .

i've seen mayflies around Kingston/Gananoque but that's the other end of Lake Ontario .

Make sure you have your passport. You can also use an enhanced driver`s license but the difference in price makes getting the passport a better deal. Technically, if you are a US citizen, they can NOT refuse your entry back into the US with a birth certificate, but they can delay your entry back in at the border.

In addition to your passport, make sure you have a clean record. Canada is tough on letting in "criminal" undesirables. My club had to scrap a Canada trip last year because one of our officers had a reckless driving conviction, which is technically a crime, not a traffic offense. If it's less than 5 years old they won't let you in. If you have a DUI conviction I'm told it's 10 years. And the "reckless" charge was just for going over 80 mph in Virginia, and he couldn't get in. (PSA--Over 80 is reckless in VA, regardless of the speed limit, even if its 70 mph!!)

Oh for sure, we've had the same thing going your way also. Article in the paper, a guy that owns property down in Florida, been going down for years, he's like 62, had a issue crop up from when he was 18. A minor thing, was denied US entry. Both countries have reciprocal rights to records. Anyhow good point for all heading on trips.
