I pre-research campgrounds and put in my Garmin 590....that way I know the place I'm staying has a shower and what it costs and if its a dump.
Rustic camping....been there done it on occasion but its nice at days end to wash up, get off sunblock etc....

KOAs are expensive IMO....one I swung by on a whim had a kids ice cream social going on. :/

State Parks- some states require a separate admission sticker (like MI) so its a hassle. BUT, many of those are maintained well. Frozen Head State Park in TN comes to mind....it was a super nice place to stay, but more vacant due to a prison nearby.

Some RV places allow tents....though not all. Seems in these parks the 'tent' areas are where people let their dogs ****/****...have seen it multiple times.

Some places in CA went to the Reserve America system so many places you need to go online to reserve....total hassle and added cost.

**if you have a Smartphone there are apps you can download to find campgrounds....clearly also Google Maps on your smartphone. These are best options. Make sure you're along main road/interstate when searching where you have cell service.

Have tented on multiple tours....def easier if staying in one spot the entire time, only need to break down/pack once....doing it everyday can be a hassle so need to be prepared for that, esp if packing up gear wet.

Some campgrounds seem to be pushing $30-40 now....its out of control in many areas IMO (not everywhere but have seen it more frequently then a decade ago)

Facebook has a motorcycle camping group....its pretty interesting you should check it out. There are a few fellas on there whove been on the road for months.

Usually at a Marriott.

IDK anymore because I haven't done any camping in years but camping locations for motorcycle touring would make a great sticky or list for the HDFORUMS

Try Allstays app. $10 to purchase but well worth it. RVs use it but well suited to your needs

Yep! I tend to avoid them. When I'm looking for a piece of dirt to setup my tent for the night, $50+ seems expensive.
If I've exhausted all options, a rest area will work. I try to find an area hidden from the general public.
Here's my campsite one night a couple of weeks ago in Montana. Woke up to seven cowboys galloping by on their horses......
