Default Retirement trip

I have talked about riding my 08 uc to the left coast ,for years .Planning on next spring / summer / or fall . Want to take about 30 days round trip , give or take a few days . We live in new jersey and want to go thru the south and stop in new mexico ( have family there ) , then so cal and up the coast to Washington . probably doing 2 of the 4 corners . Then thru the north back to new jersey . My wife and i are in the late 60's , will use hotels and motels on the trip. I own a small cargo trailer and will be loading it with what-ever she wants . Any experience on a trip like this would be great ! I do not want to cook in new mexico or freeze in the north ! We have done long trips , like jersey to sturgis and back . We ride the bike the full trip and will not put it on a trailer . Can go 4-600 in a day , but would like to avoid the interstates . If we only do a 2-300 mile day on 2 lanes that is ok . Looking for some one who has done it , and any suggestions they might have

A couple of suggestions. The California/Oregon Coast is best traveled South and in late
August. Less fog. Also, The view is to the right and ahead of you and all the pullouts are to your right when heading south so you don’t have to cross traffic.

You can do this bit in both directions. Hwy 20 To Winthrop Washington- Hells Canyon- Lolo Pass- Road To The Sun - Yellowstone- Beartooth Pass & Chief Joseph Pass - Cody Wyoming- Alternat Route 14a. - Little Big Horn.

in California- Yosemite- Death Valley- The Mohave- Joshua Tree - and of course, some of Route 66 and The Grand Canyon.

When you get closer, let me know and I will show a good map.

This Winter spend some time reading “Journeys Of Darla” ..... every road I mentioned above is in there, some of them several times.

No matter which route, enjoy. Your in for a hell of an adventure.

With a screen name of 1957Buick and willingness to do some 2-lanes, I've got to suggest considering Route 66. Or at least some of it. And I'm not talking about just taking the interstate between points of interest.

It could eat up a LOT of the 30 days, depending on how many nostalgic stops you want to make. There are more scenic roads for sure, but if you enjoy the history, old gas stations, classic motels, etc, you might enjoy it.

+1 on that. Also early September as inland areas start to cool off. Another reason to ride north to south is that the coast gets pretty windy in the afternoons, predominantly out of the northwest. Riding southwards puts the wind at your back and makes for a much more comfortable ride.
