Got some time off between Christmas and New Years, was gonna ride to the Keys but seems like with it being the long weekend leading into New Year its jammed. Probably gonna postpone that trip since A1A will be a parking lot, what other good rides are there in and around Florida? Will be coming from Savannah area, looking at just cruising down the coast and camping somewhere near Lake Okechobee.
Good choice...This isn't going to be the best times for being in Key West unless you're into the BIG PARTY mode. If you're going to camp near the lake...Do a ride all the way around the lake to see some of the "real Florida" that rarely appears in tourist brochures. Stop by J&S Fish Camp on the weekend. Good spot. If you wish to go a little farther...one of my favorite rides is a piece of the old Tamiami Trail (Highway 41) across the state from Naples to Miami.
We are riding down to Little Torch Key on Christmas Day and riding out of the Keys on New Years Eve. I hope we should be good with the traffic both days. Christmas Day, everyone should be home opening presents. New Years Eve, the traffic should be heading south not North. That is my plan, we will see how it pans out.

Just a suggestion for you to enjoy Key West and not get in all that traffic. There is a high speed catamaran service that departs Ft. Myers Beach most every morning, think it leaves maybe 7:30 or 8:00 ish, depending on wind and waves it arrives in Key West maybe 11:30 ish. You depart the boat and walk around exploring Key West and the boat leaves Key West heading back at 5:00. Pretty nice blasting through the water and watching a spectacular sunset with a drink in your hand on the return trip. And when we went, number of years ago, we saw numerous folks boarding the boat with a backpack or suitcase on wheels. You can ride the boat to Key West on a given day and maybe stay over in Key West one or several days then catch the return trip back on some other day. Can't remember the cost but it is cheaper if you buy your tickets one or more days in advance rather than the day you want to go to Key West. And if you take the boat and go up on the upper deck you better hang onto your hat and sunglasses. That's one fast boat!

Thanks for the advice. Definitely gonna check that out. Probably gonna cruise down A1A then cut over camp near Clewiston then hit Tamiami trail and ride up to Tampa.
