Headed out on a trip to eastern Washington and Oregon next Sunday, Aug 4th. The plan is after riding Lolo pass to Lewistown, maybe spend a couple of days riding the Palouse area. Then maybe take Hwy 3 down to Enterprise and Joseph.
I'm finding conflicting information as to whether there is a paved road from Joseph to western Idaho, say maybe McCall, ID.
Any info on that area of Oregon would be greatly appreciated.
I just did that ride in reverse, McCall to Joseph. Wallowa Mountain Rd to NFD 39 through Hells Canyon NRA is paved, then OR 86 to Oxbow, OR 71 to ID 71 to US 95 to McCall. Lotsa twisties.
Watch the mountain road by Joseph, in rough shape and the gravel beds in the construction zones are not packed. Go around them if possible.
Take the 22 mile detour up to HC Dam on the Idaho side from Oxbow if you can. Great ride.
Enjoy. Oh yeah, plan your gas stops, whole lotta nothing out there.
