One thing for darn sure if things go south , don't let it shake you up make the best of . Not all trips that go bad end bad and they look better years down the road.
As I've mentioned before, I have a now 20 yo Road Glide that after it's accident Feb '14 (that totaled it.) it's now a 'Road King' salvage (see Avatar and sig pics / before and after.) It's been to Daytona twice since then. 165,000 miles. loses no oil over 5,000 mile oil changes, and has never had the cases split. She has taken me to Daytona and back twice in the last 5 years. I'm thinking of a trip come this February. I am so deserving of a major breakdown (We'll deal with it when it comes.)
yep.... aaa for bikes... load the harley dealer locator app and it will always let u know where closest one is to your breakdown... usually within the 100 tow range... otherwise to motel close and dealer next day... plan ahead always... good thinkin wife
The wife and I are planning a trip from Santa Fe NM to Banff, Alberta, Canada. She asked me what would we do if the bike broke down and no quick fix to get it home. I've been to California and other long trips with it but now the bike is 10 years old and she asks me this question!?! Even if it was brand new, Hmmm...so, what would one do?
I purchased the extended HD roadside plan for 19.99 for my cross country trip from MA to Sturgis, along with my roadside assistance from Progressive, I was covered.

Well summer before last I was riding my 1997 883 Sportster across country when it burned a hole in the side of the cylinder. I had road side assistance and they towed me to the nearest Harley dealership. I thought about waiting 4 or 5 days and having them put a 1200 kit in it, but that would have ruined my plans. They offered me $1,000 trade in and a OK price on the 2006 1200 Sportster, they threw in a back rest and a luggage rack, I transferred my saddle bags and windshield and rode off on a new to me bike. When I called the wife to tell her what happened she at first said "We'll talk about it when you get home" I said "Honey I tried to be good" and she replied " tell me you didn't spend over $10,000" I said "What $10K is what would make you mad, I'm going to go back and get a different bike"
Really, if you have a major problem while on a long road trip, your choices are:
1. Sit there while someone repairs your bike.
2. But a new to you bike and ride on.
3. Rent a U-Haul and drive your bike back home.
Considering AMA for an upcoming trip. Have heard enough bad reviews of HOG & personally have never had a good experience with AAA. Actually have never had AAA lift a finger for me & was a member for years. Not going that far but would feel better knowing there was someone to come get you if necessary. I know this is an old thread, just doing a search.
