Default Butler Maps & Ride Planning

Wherever you want to go, the most fun riding can be had by checking a Butler Map of the area you intend to ride. The best roads to ride are highlighted in Yellow and called G1. Better roads are highlighted Red and called G2, then Orange (G3) and then the rest which are not highlighted (these are all paved roads). If you ride for the pleasure of seeing country and having fun on the twisties, look for G1 roads. On the Butler website, they have a planner (it ain't great but it's okay and there's a subscription). The HD Ride Planner is the way to go since it's free and works pretty well. Routes you plan in the HD Ride planner create .gpx files that Import into the latest Boom Box via thumb drive connected to the smart phone USB connection. Many other planners .gpx files are not compatible. There are some planners that are compatible but some like MyPlanner cost an annual fee ($80 I think).

If you plan to be in the 4 Corner States area, there is a great AAA Map called Indian Countries Guide Map. Get a few of these. You will want more than one. I'm planning a ride through this are in September with a few friends. Going to find as many G1 roads as we can.

Do you mean to ask if I work for Butler Maps? The answer is no. Some people don't know about them, so I thought I would suggest checking them out. This section is about Ride Planning is it not, I can't see planning anything without consulting a Butler map first. I hate riding interstate.

+1 on Butler Maps. A great resource to plan a ride. As far as the 4 corners check out the Moki Dugway while you're in the area. Its packed gravel but the corners are paved and worth the trip.

Thanks. Mokey Dugway is part of the reason we are doing this ride. Great tip. It's a most unusual bit of road. Just wish there was a cold drink and taco stand there.

I used Butler Maps last Sept while riding in Arkansas for a few days. It was excellent.

Really need one in Arkansas. The Ozark Mountains have the highest concentration of G1 roads of anyplace I've ever seen. I had a ton of fun riding around there a few years back. Maybe it was more than a few years. Thanks for the reply.

I'm a fan of the Butler maps also.
Here's a tip for you. Butler maps usually has a sale a few times a year (Labor Day, Christmas) where they offer a choice of 6 maps for $60. I've taken advantage of that deal (3) different times. If you can't find (6) maps you might be interested in, just ask a couple of riding buddies if they would be interested in purchasing a map or two to get your order total to six.

Yes. Thanks. Father's also works. I have most maps and I've given several away as gifts. I'm using 4 right now to plan my Sept trip around the 4 Corners states. I haven't got the chest they have to keep them all in. I just put them in the black pouch since they fit in my bike easier that way. $10 for a map is still a lot for a map, but beats $14.95 all day.
