Im planning a cross country trip next year (Ohio to CA and back) and think it might be wise to have some type of roadside assistance/towing coverage. Im a HOG member but want more than the basic coverage. Has anyone upgraded to the deluxe package which offers coverage through Road America? Or have you used AAA? What are your experiences with either and do you recommend one over the other.
Have both AAA and HOG, the basic HOG. Have had better roadside assistance through HOG than AAA. I'm guessing it depends on who they contract with in the area you have an issue in. In my cases it might be that HOG tow operators in Texas are just that much more willing to go above and beyond to help than the AAA ones in Pennsylvania.
I have the Road America.. I used it in Alberta when I broke down. It paid to the closest dealer that wasn't open the
Monday I needed, My tow was a extra 150 miles and my bike insurance picked up the difference. Comes in handy
if your going to be farther away than the Hog deluxe will pay to the closest dealer.

Since youre a HOG member go to the website and check out the $19.95/yr upgrade. You get a tow to the nearest HD dealer or the town its in....Nothing out of pocket and without regard to miles in USA and Canada.

I have both and use both. Absolutely without question by Far Is Road America that HD has. ALSO very important is that Road America my friend will bring you to a Harley dealership. The closest one.
Not so with AAA.
I have used Road America more times than I care to think about and each time they did a fantastic, fantastic, fantastic job. In one time they actually had to "ping" me to find my location. I do not think AAA does that.
Great question my friend, great question.
Someone else asked a similar question not long ago. You may want to search for it.
I think I do have the deluxe. I can double check if you like.
+1 on Road America. I have it for the last couple years because of the longer trips I've been doing. I haven't had to use (knock on wood) but for the cost it seems to have the best options/value across the USA.
I use AAA......have used their towing 7 or 8 times over the years......only had 2 issues, one was not my bike.....
I stopped to help a guy in the Keys who had been clipped in the front wheel and brake rotor was bent.....he told AAA that bike wouldnt roll and when the tow came the guy was driving a box truck.....We had to help load the bike......
2nd was my bike.....quit on me and AAA dispatched a rookie who had never towed a bike so we had to wait on a supervisor before he would tow me.....
Overall though i have been happy with their service and continue to use them......
