I was stopped once for quite a while when the herd was crossing the road... the biggest one of the bunch walked right by me... i was leaning on the bike, he looked at me, I am sure gave a nod in appreciation of my ride, then moved on... don't approach them, they will not you... I have also ridden through a bunch of them once when I had the space... all the cars where stopped to take pictures, and I wanted to take pictures up on The Beartooth... like Architect says... No sudden movements... the next time look for the Coyotes that move with them... they are always looking for a fallen one to chow down on.

I have visited Yellowstone on several occasions, on the bike and in a car. Personally, for the park itself, I preferred traveling in the car. Outside of the park though is an entirely different story though!

When in the park to me, it is about the park, the natural beauty and awe inspiring wonders of nature. The roads with in the park are not great bike roads and after being up close and personal with a Bison on the bike and in the car, I prefer the car LOL

Yellowstone is a great place. Lived there for 10 years. Traffic is slow going and full of rented RV's. Be very careful. Rode my bike through 5 or 6 years ago. Probably won't again. Lots of great riding around the park. Best way to see the park is getting off the bike or out of the car and walking around or taking a short hike. Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, Norris Geyser Basin, Lamar Valley are great. Gardiner is a pretty cool town but recently had a fire downtown that took out a couple pretty cool bars.

Curious to know why you say the park roads are not bike friendly. I always thought that experiencing YP by MC was what is what it was all about.

I have met numerous herds head on in Custer State Park without any problems. Not saying it has never happened, but I have never read about a fatal encounter of a MC and a bison

I find a motorcycle to be the best way to visit any of our NP's including Yellowstone. Of course we still stop at the appropriate places and hike around a bit. Traffic and parking can get a little crazy with the RV's etc, I go right around all of it and do what I need to do to keep the wheels turning. But the ability to look around and smell the place, always a bike if you can, good luck.

I'd imagine they would be use to the traffic as long as you don't try to get close or scare them

I did not say the park roads are not bike friendly, I said I prefer doing the park in a car versus the bike. Too many crazy rented campers, wild life and the slow speed limits, for me anyway, take away from the motorcycling experience. I like sweepers and riding, not sitting in lines roasting.

That being said though, I just returned from Yellowstone in the convertible! Loved doing the park that way! Rain gear is easy on and off, no worries about wild life killing me but yet was nice to enjoy the fresh air.
