Early May you will find some cold temps, even in New Mexico and Az--the panhandle part of Texas and then Ok is hit or miss. If you start out at 7am you'll need to bundle up and then by 10 am you'll be down to a long sleeve shirt and vest or sweatshirt----have fun---kinda jealous
I've ridden from Albuquerque to Phoenix quite a few times. The "standard" route is I-40 west to Flagstaff and then south on I-17 into Phoenix. A much more interesting route is south on I-25 from Albuquerque to Socorro. West on US-60 from Socorro all the way to Phoenix. Probably adds an hour and a half to the time, but a way more enjoyable ride.
