Great video! Looking forward to part#2. Looks like a great trip with friends. All couples too, huh? I can't get my wife to ride more than an hour or 2. When she retires I'll harass her more for a long trip.
Couple questions if you don't mind. I was planning on the Lorton to Sanford train this past September. Never happened but I will probably do it next September. Thanks for the motorcycles left lane tip . Getting off the train. Are bikes first, last or just whenever the line gets to them? Arrive 2 hours before train leaves? It may be somewhat cheating but I don't care. My back will thank me.
Bike are last off the train. You will arrive at 10:00 a.m. (suppose to) and by 11:00 a.m.....we had out bikes. We did arrive about 1 hour before when we loaded onto the train. Hit rain that slowed us down but becasue you could skip the line, it still went smooth.
Done the auto train a couple of times, once from AL, ran across to FL then caught the train. Bikes are last off the train, so don't run out the door as you will be waiting. I didn't get a private room. Was able to sleep without issue. Second time going to FL, hoped the train. Same thing, bikes last off, wife and i were able to sleep without issue. Brought a bag specific for the train. Had blow up pillow, sweats, used coats as blankets. Arrived in FL, road across state to clearwater and enjoyed the beach and warm weather riding.
buy food before you get on train, food on the train is barely palatable as it is all microwaved.
I would do it again as it cost about as much as a hotel room would cost for the night. We didn't go thru metal detectors so keeping all my equipment with me was a non-issue.
Its very cool and easy. Bikes rode well and we shaved 2 days off our trip so we could spend more time exploring the NE area.
How the hell did you save two Days? Was going to use the Train in Va to FL It was going to take about 28 hours. I decided to just ride in the cold weather. By the time I hit NC started to worm up by GA I was in the t shirt got to Fl in 12 Hours total with a stop along the way.

If we had rode from Miami, FL - Lorton, VA....it would have taken us 2 days so we saved a day up and we saved a day coming back. This let us explore the area in PA, VT, NY, NH more.
Thanks. I tried 2 years ago and couldn't get a straight answer from amtrac about the trike.
Done it twice before with the shovel and road king. Nice getting that far north rested and ready to go.
if you catch the deals, it's not too bad $ wise.
