I've been trying to boost up my resume and would love to participate in one of the IBA rallies in the future. Best of luck to those going and be safe!

Chris: Glad you are ok. Sorry you went for a slide. Hope you get everything back together in time for the IBR.

On a side note, I have almost the exact same trailer as the orange one in your pictures. Mine tilts which makes loading/unloading interesting sometimes.
Hard to tell the cause which is the frustrating part. There must have been something slippery on the road, antifreeze, diesel, etc. I could not get back to the area due to the location. Looking at Google Maps there appears to be a change in road surface which may have been the cause.

Check out Ride Master at https://rides.jasonjonas.com/

That is how one signs up for most of the rallies. The Minnesota 1000 I am told is a good rally. Another option is the Junior Butt in which teams participate. They will help you find a teammate.

Team Strange hosts the MN1000 Rally and riders come from far and wide to participate. I suspect some of the attraction is the quality of the event and, for those coming from southern regions, the landscape and cooler temperatures. It’s not likely you’ll find 80 or 90 degree temperatures during the MN1000 - 70’s and below is common. You might even need heated gear… in June! And our rain is cold - typically knocking the temperature down into the fifties. We have common Midwest farmland, prairies, forests, and the 10,000+ lakes. Our traffic density is generally low and drivers tend to be aware of motorcyclists and courteous. Aside from our shorter riding season - there’s a lot of worse places one could ride 1,000 miles in 20 hours. Here’s some of my favorite riding photo locations from Minnesota. I’m not native but I’ve been here twenty years now.

Grand Army of the Republic Hall in Litchfield

Hermann the German in New Ulm

A very large steam locomotive in Two Harbors

The big lake they call Gitchee Gumee

The crow statue in Belgrade

The bell tower at St.John’s University

Subscribing

I thought about trying to get into the IBR but I don't think it's for me. At least not a this time. I'm just not good at the whole point thing.

I haven't posted any Rally updates here for a while, so let me catch you up.

After my trip to Florida in March, I didn't ride much until the Tour of Honor sites were released in April. I went out on 4/2 and did all the Iowa sites to claim the 1st place trophy for the state. This was my first trophy attempt and it went pretty well. So far, I have gotten 106 TOH sites (all types), with 46 of them being state sites. I picked them up on my ride to and from the Heart of Texas Rally, and I just got back from a long Memorial Day weekend ride in which I got all state sites for Nebraska and Kansas, as well as a few in WY and CO.

As I mentioned, I rode the Heart of Texas Rally in April. I did the 4 day version (there's also a shorted 36 hour for those who prefer that). The weather was quite he challenge this year. I finished respectably, but part of the rally puzzle eluded my perception, so I finished lower than I would have liked. That said, it was still a good finish considering the caliber of folks competing. I also received another IBA certificate for going 4,000 miles during the 96 hour event.

After the HoT rally, but before the ride to NE, KS, CO, WY, I found a problem with one of the cams on the BMW. I was able to get it in and fixed in about 12 days, but those were 12 very stress filled days for me! I had purchased an extended warranty when I bought the bike, and the repair was covered by that. Hopefully, I never have to use it again.

Now I'm doing final prep work before I head out to the start in a few weeks. Things like new tires, fresh oil, and checking other consumables. I'll ride a few hundred miles near the house before it's time to head out just to make sure I didn't mess anything up.

Hopefully everything is uneventful between now and 6/19.

If the weather doesn't look manageable (snow or just stupid cold), we'll make it happen. Should be a good time. Maybe when I retire I'll do the 50CC or the full rally, but now I just don't have the PTO.
Completed and submitted receipts, etc. electronically. Asked for payment instructions. Haven't heard anything from them. Not sure what their normal processing time is.
