Montana is my home. As much as I say to everyone else to stay the hell away, on here I'll say hell yeah! It's an absolutely fantastic place to ride. A couple things to remember: it can snow anytime of the year in Montana - even in the valleys so plan accordingly, also, as much as possible avoid riding at night - so many animals and so dangerous.
There is a great HD dealership there, but probably the last place I'd stay is Missoula. Since you'll be in the area anyway, highway 12 between Missoula and Lewiston is a must. From Lewiston you can take highway 95 up around lake coeur d'alene them run I 90 back. Could easily do it in one long day, but recommend getting a hotel along the way.

Thats a fact! I was on the road one year at little before 5 am in your state when it’s still dark but starting to lighten up a bit. Lucky for me, I saw some vague movement and hit the brakes before I plowed into a herd of 20+ elk on a 2 lane country road.

Enjoy!
Thanks for the Local insight. We are flying into Missoula and the EagleRider/Harley dealer that rents is by the airport so we are looking at staying in that area to keep everything in one place especially if we have to let things dry in the hotel.

I hardly ever stop in Missoula any more so I really have no idea.
Donovan's in Anaconda is pretty dang good if you're up for a couple hour ride. As an added bonus you can run the Pintler Scenic Route on the way there, back or both.

That is a nice ride, we've don it twice. We stop at the grocery store in Anaconda and buy a sandwich then stop at the Philipsburg Town Park and eat. They put up a lot of hay in that area.
As we are now 2 weeks away and now seeing in the news about the fires happening in the area we have found out that this is normal this time of the year. Of course it's too late to get a full refund from Eagle Rider so it looks like we will just have to take our chances and hope the smoke is not bad enough to ruin our riding.
We rode out to Sturgis on a very northern route from the East Coast three weeks ago. Lots of talk about smoke before we left, one day we saw some smoke, not enough to even remember where it was, I wouldn't worry about it. We went West in WI, MN and North Dakota. Had way more issues with rain then smoke. Good luck.
