Crazy Bunk-a-biker is a website that lists people that will allow you to stay at their place over night. Some have inside rooms, showers, garages, tools, a trailer and more. I have had good results with it on at least a half a dozen occasions. Just Google "bunk-a-biker" and it should come up.

Thanks, I just checked it out. It looks interesting. Sorry to derail your thread, but one more question about it: What is the point of the black pins? If you're not supposed to contact these hosts, why do they have a pin at all? Especially a pin that gives their contact information?

I am guessing but maybe it's that they are temporarily unavailable and don't want to leave the list or ????

Sounds reasonable. Please be sure to write up a ride report and post it here when you're done with the trip.

Agree. for me I am not retired, so I have limited vacation, and usually wait, unless going down south.

This is a solo trip, my wife is much like yours and camping just ain't happening.
Present plan is to do the park the truck and trailer and do the big loop like you said you liked and combine camping and motels, whatever suits my whim at the time.
The trailer is semi-enclosed. It is a 6 x 10 flatbed and will have a tarp tent on it. I will post a pic as soon as I finish it.
I'm not too concerned about staying warm and dry, my bigger concern is the security of my pickup and it's related gear when I go for a ride. I may look into a short term storage facility or something?
Randy
Your concern of the security for your truck and trailer is valid.
I've parked and left mine (as my friend has also ) in motel parking lots (with permission of course) many times for several days to a week.
On one occasion when our ride was longer (two weeks or so) I stored my truck and trailer in a fenced, trailer/camper storage facility.
On an earlier trip, I had a "junker" car (it's a long story I just happened to meet a gentleman in southern Utah and he graciously offered me a "free" parking space on a vacant "ranch" (in Utah) for as long as I wanted!
I finally got him to accept a "token" amount of cash.

More of a concern to me (when on trips) is my bike/trike in motel parking lots, even though I have been doing this for over 50 years!
(Do a search for the Larry Wheeler story).
I try to either park my bike/trike within eye-sight of my motel room's window OR by the main front entrance to the motel where there's usually a security camera.

In today's world, anything is possible but I can honestly say that I have never/yet had one of my cars, trucks, bikes stolen or vandalized when I was on a trip, but (with a few exceptions) I've been able to choose "safer" locations for overnight stays.
All we can rally do is to keep our vehicles insured, not leave anything "tempting" easily accessible and try to park in safer, lighted and or secured areas.

Stay out of the Colorado and New Mexico mountains in early April. April is actually one of the prime skiing months. April is also the second snowiest month in Colorado. The likelihood of hitting cold weather and bad road conditions in April in CO mountains is near 100%, 50 - 50 in the rest of the state. Even the mountains in AZ near Flagstaff will likely be very cold and snowy. Down by Phoenix and Tuscon should be beautiful though.

What do storage units costs? Trailer south, and leave truck in storage unit.

Funny sign of how much junk we got nowadays. I never say those when I was a kid.

Hmmm, an after action report, that will be a new one for me. I’ll see if I can make that happen, usually I put the last trip behind me and start making plans for the next one. Ok, I’ll keep notes and post em, I hope.

I did an on the road report here once. It was just a few pictures and comments while I was on a road trip one time. It was pretty cool. Several people were interacting with me in real time giving route advice and suggestions or just appreciating the reports. It was pretty fun.
