My son & myself are looking at riding the Natchez Trace in mid October. From North Ga Would most likely start on the Nashville end headed south. We will have 3 full days to complete. Probably head up to Nashville and then south as far as we can make it day 1. Camp for the night. Then day two ride all day, camp the night again, then day 3 home.
Looking for 1st hand recommendations on camping spots. We typically sleep in hiking hammocks.
We camp alot so we know what to bring. Im just really looking for camping spots that are easily navigated to on an ultra.
Any advice is appreciated.
I've driven several part of it, primarily north of Jackson MS and south. Never camped, but the NPS map had lots of good information, including closures. If you have not looked at it yet, the link it below.
I'll follow along because I want to do some similar, but haven't camped in a few years.
The trace goes through the north west corner of Alabama. When you cross Hwy 72, you are about 20 miles Muscle Shoals. There was a lot of good music produced there in the 70's so it may be a good stop if that interest you.

If you can catch the leaves when they turn, it's not a boring ride. Lots og historical places to stop, but to me it's best to find the ones that interest you and are spaced far enough apart that you can make progess on a schedule that works for you.
I liked Natchez and viewing some of the Grand Homes and the Grand Village of the Natches Indians. Some good eats there too.
Weve been looking into it more. Thinking an option is to go from here in Ga to the primitive campground in center of the trace (Jeff Busby campground) & stay there 1 night then head south to the Lynyrd Skynyrd crash memorial in Magnolia Ms. Then home. We would need to find somewhere to camp near that memorial if we go that route. Still just looking at potential options.
