BlueRidge parkway paving closures

The Parkway from Asheville to Mt Mitchell State Park is open as of today. That leaves just one more section to go from Mt Mtchell State Park to Spruce Pine. There is no word on that timeline but it would be great if they could get it done before the Anniversary of the Helene floods on Sept 27th.

Google maps and the national park service maps aren’t reflecting this yet, but when they opened some sections last fall near Blowing Rock while I was up there, those same maps didn’t reflect that either. I wonder if they are also opening up the section that was still closed one week ago just north and south of the parkway interchange with 421 at Deep Gap.

We were just up on the BRP for dinner and great news. It is fully open again between Hwy 21 and Hwy 18. Fresh new asphalt from Fancy Gap all the way to Hwy 18, Laurel Springs, Freebornes. SWEET.
The word from the locals is Hwy 18 to Hwy 16 on the BRP will open sometime in October.
