No offense but I question the Chicago roots of your friend. No self respecting Chicagoan puts ketchup on a hot dog. There may be a city ordinance against it 😉. Unfortunately my youngest daughter, born in Chicago, went over to the dark side. I can’t figure where I went wrong.

No, it was no ketchup (she made that clear) but tomatoes and pickles. You should have seen the lady at the counter very confused look. Our friend is full Chicago. Wears a Bears jersey most days from August to February.

Apologies for the hijack. No one puts ketchup on a hotdog without getting a complete ration of s#$t from their entire family and every other living human within a 1 mile radius. It must be a rebellious nature thing. Kind of like when my father changed from being a Cubs fan to a White Sox fan around 1971 just to needle everyone in the family haha.

Once again, sorry for the hijack.

Thanks for the clarification. I feel better hearing no ketchup! As a long suffering Bears and White Sox fan, anyone who’s still wearing the team gear despite the years (decades) of futility is a die hard and ok in my book!

Sometimes it's the things (or the weather) that didn't go right on trips that seem to make them more memorable!

In 55+ years of riding I think back on things that were more so good at the time but find them to be amusing now.

I still remember some of our (family and friends) group rides and how frustrating it could be in trying (unsuccessfully most of the time) to keep everyone together and happy;

As their "designated leader" looking in the mirrors and seeing bikes behind me either pulling off to the side of the road (or worse) turning onto a different route that may (or may not) have not been correct!
Got so bad that I made them "swear" on the road Atlas that they would follow me regardless!
Immediately afterwards (in less than a mile) two of them turned off without the rest of us!!!.
It wasn't long after that I found that my wife was the "culprit" in those events!

One of the other memories was having THREE female riders (in the Smokey Mountains) and having one that didn't like to make LH turns, another that didn't like to make RH turns and one the didn't like to "stop on a hill"!

These days I'm pretty much back to "solo" riding with an occasional ride with a friend.

Totally agree. The most memorable moments during my many years of trips are generally times that were more challenging - close calls, running out of gas, bike breaking down, “tsunami” coming over the top on a ferry, but mostly bad weather related. But the memories are all good ones today.
