First 25 miles of BRP were loose gravel due to road construction, no other bikes on this section besides us 2 nuts! Then it got nice and we rolled for another 100 miles till we got near Sparta and had to detour off due to BRP being closed southbound. Gassed up on a little gas station on 18S and rode it to Sparta and then jogged over to 21S when the thunderstorms started firing up in the area, got couple of sprinkles just enough to cool us down. Picked up 77 near Elkins and blasted our way in blazing hot weather to 40 W towards Asheville. Rolled into Maggie Valley at 4 pm, 500 miles in total. Cleaned up at the hotel and went to local joint for some chow and cold beers.
We rode a months worth of great roads in one day today. Picked up BRP southbound from Maggie Valley and rode it to where its closed near 215. Took 215 N to 276 N to 209 N to 63 S. 63 is an amazing ride and eventually runs into downtown Asheville.
Who doesn't or wouldn't love riding in that region? We are currently occupying a rental at Lake Toxaway between Highlands and Brevard. We've done a ton of riding around MV, Cherokee, Robbinsville and all those great roads. Even if it's familiar it never gets old. Have to admit I try to avoid Asheville as much as possible due to crazy roads and crazier traffic. Yesterday we were south of Rosman and noticed a large area of mountainside that had enormous tree damage from Helene. Incomprehensible to make it short. Looked like a 2 mile wide F2 twister went through damaging a high percentage of trees and uprooting thousands of them.
