Default Route Planning

I was thinking about future motorcycle rides and decided to give ChatGPT a try in planning some preliminary routes. I found out that to get the details I needed, I needed a subscription to access the full features of the Chat. I was able to get a 7-day trial subscription for $1.00. I went ahead and started planning. To get the best result, I needed to give Chat good information, so, for example, I said to plan a 30-day motorcycle trip to Fairbanks, Alaska, starting and ending in North Ridgeville, OH, with inexpensive hotels. I then took the detailed itinerary Chat provided and entered it into the Harley Route Planner, making any adjustments or modifications I wanted. I was very impressed with what I could do. It saved me hours of time. Not everything that came out of the Chat was 100% accurate; some distances were off, but the route was well done, with all the road info. I love it, and I now have 3 basic routes planned - One to Key West, Florida, one through the Southwestern US, and one to Fairbanks, Alaska. All three include daily mileage, the route information, gas & restaurant stops, hotel suggestions with cost, total trip mileage, and recommended scenic stops. Crazy helpful!

The more specific your request the better the information you'll receive.

MY how things and times have changed!
I can remember using road maps and "guestimating" distances in "inches" according the pap's legend!

Even with computers, GPS etc, I STILL like looking at my Road Atlas or the old HOG Handbook for scenic roads and trip planning.

Never thought to try this with ChatGPT. I have a trip planned from NC to New England this summer using mostly secondary roads I'll give ChapGPT a try to see what it comes up with.

@rwtrick I've used ChatGPT also for some ideas. It helps with like you say a route, and can aid in distances / hotels / things to see etc. I'd just build the trip as presented, and then verify it. I wrote a post where someone else was using ChatGPT so I got it to run the similar route, and it's accuracy was a little questionable.

Otherwise, yeah, it's pretty awesome, and does a pretty amazing job of route planning.

Anchorage would be an epic run. Bring your mosquito net for Northern BC! [I'd assume Alaska also...]

Been using this for a while. Not the end-all / be-all, but definitely helps to get directional / initial plans in place.

I use both ChatGPT and Google AI for trip planning as well as verifying old school method (maps/brochures/local intel). Really great that you can discover local places to see and eat as well as route planning all in one step.

Never been a big fan of a plain on a ride. I always seen to make it there unless the weather is bad then I go a different direction to avoid it. Sometimes I make my destinations sometimes I don't but I seem to get the miles on back roads and see new things and lots of fun. I do use my GPS on my bike, no highways, and scenic.
