Blue Ridge trip
I have done Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge Parkway a couple of times after Memorial Day Weekend in DC. I take I-66 out of the DC area and head for Front Royal. Do not speed! I have never seen a higher concentration of police than on I-66 on Memorial Day. In Front Royal I stop at the South Street Grill for breakfast. Skyline Drive is around 100 miles, speed limit is 25-30 Mph. On days following Memorial Day traffic on Skyline and BRP tends to be almost zero in the morning and late afternoon. For some reason more traffic between 10 AM and 2 PM. Even then not that bad. If you take pictures plan on lots of stops. Skyline and BRP are at least a three day ride for me.
I have ridden the Dragon several times both on my Sportster and RG on weekends and weekdays. Stay away from the Dragon on weekends. Way too many speed freaks. If you have much "stuff" on the bike make sure it is extremely secure. Before you descend make a stop at the tree-of-shame at the top. See the bike parts that riders have left on the Dragon. Be safe, enjoy.
