BRP in May
Planning a trip from FL to Lorton, VA via the Autotrain the first of May, riding my scoot from there to Gettysburg, then down to Front Royal, Skyline Drive, Blue Ridge Parkway and back to FL. I was wondering if anyone has done SD and the BRP at this time of year and what the weather might be like? I would appreciate any info.

I will describe the weather as "iffy" in early May. A few years ago, on April 29, I took the BRP heading to north Georgia but had to get off because it was gated closed due to snow on the north side of Mt Michell. We got off and rode to Asheville to get back on. From there heading south toward Mt Pisgah it was closed again. You may catch some warm weather but plan on cool and damp, then you'll be OK.

May can average mid 40's to mid 70's we have had snow for juky 4th too. It will typicaly be a dry cool not like in florida, when 40 hear a sweat shirt or just a lined leather or texdial coat and chaps is good for the first hour or two. Down load maps of the side roads or order a western north carolins map to see the side roads. The BR map is junk at best. Go to( carolinamcevents.com )for interesting stops, events, campgrounds everything biker related. Most campgrounds have cabins too. Many great side roads and stops . Order a tourist info pack from the states your ride'n to maybe find other interest. I did not know you could auto train a bike ,thats cool ,saves on wear an tear and time. We use to ride up to Palatka to spend the night and eat a bunch of catfish at a resturant just east of the st.johns and stay there at the motel. Last time down it was gone,, progress i guess. We rode out of naples then.. I ride regularly in the 30's with just a old pair of chaps and a tourmaster transition coat with liner and a tshirt. All will be good. Do a weather history for avery ,mitchell and yancey counties in NC and that will tell you about temps and mousture.
