I'm on the Chamber of Commerce for Gore, OK. We are located just south of Lake Tenkiller and Lake Greenleaf (about 10 mins) and just north of Lake Eufala (about 35 mins.) We get a lot of bike travel through here in the warmer, sunnier months. We have a spring and fall cruise night that consists mostly of old hot rods with a few bikes coming through. We just started kicking around the idea today of trying to host some type of rally/event/bike show, etc. If anyone is familiar with Talimena Drive, we are about 100 mi north of the starting point on the Oklahoma side. We haven't even started planning our little event, not even a date yet. But, I decided to throw the word out and try to get some feedback as far as ideas for events, entertainment, etc. We are a very small town, approx 1000 people, but it's nothing to see over 100 bike pass through on any given summer day.
Hey, KSIG!
I think it's a great idea, and I've kicked around the same thing for our small town also, but there ain't much here to do or see.
With you up there, you've got the Talimena and Heavener, the Ouachitas, then east of you the Boston Mtns and some great riding around Devil's Den also.
Sounds like y'all need to sit down and formulate a plan. Remember that with big groups comes the potential for trouble, so market it smartly and you should have no troubles and you'll keep the townfolk happy. Keep us posted.
I'm in SW Missouri, but grew up in OK and have ridden thru Gore several times. If you have it, be sure and post the details here. That is gorgeous country to ride thru!!
Picture taken of me having a little fun in your fair city at the first annual cruise night in 03 before the OHP came in and shut it down.
Don't forget to include the fact that Gore is the starting point for Oklahoma's Cherokee Hills Scenic Byway that follows Hiway 10 from Gore to West Siloam Springs. The only other official scenic byway in Oklahoma is the Talimena Drive.
This is true....and there is a push for it to become an international scenic byway. Nice pic. We have an actual burnout competition now at the cruise nights!
