Had a really close call on the way to work this morning. I left a couple minutes later than normal and ended up behind a school bus for a bit. Came to a place to pass, and I eased out. There was a dim headlight down the road, easily far enough off to do the pass. I rolled the throttle back and started passing. When I got even with the driver I suddenly noticed the oncoming vehicle was way closer than I thought. I goosed it, and got over just in time.
The other vehicle was an old geezer in a pickup. One headlight was out, and the other was barely lit. No parking lights, either. Coupled with my less-than-stellar night vision, and the difficulty of depth perception in the dark, I just flat out blew it. Guess the good Lord was watching out for one of His fools this morning.
Ya ain't never too old to learn, but if'n ya don't, ya might not get any older.
