I finally talked my wife into taking the ride to the Black Hills this summer! We ride an '03 Road King, and plan on leaving Aug 3 and arriving Aug 6. Obviously, I'm in no hurry! I waited too long and we're staying in Hulett, Wyoming at the Best Western (65 miles west of Sturgis). Does anybody have any good "do's and don'ts" for us on the trip? We've never been this far out (1497 miles from Conroe,Texas to Sturgis), and we'll be by ourselves since all our riding friends crapped out on us.
Ride your own ride, respect the passengers concerns, that will help the trip immensly. A lot of good rides around Sturgis and Hill City area. If you take a camera tkae extra film, photo cards and batteries or camera battery charger. The weather rain, heat, early morning chilly, and maybe a hailstorm. Watch out for the BIG animals after dark. Enjoy it above all else.
Don't overpack
Enjoy the ride to Sturgis and back home
Don't overplan. Allow for some downtime
Buy your tshirts as late in the week as you can and ship them home
Go to Rapid City HD
The concerts at the Buffalo Chip are pretty cool
Don't worry about going alone, you will meet lots of good people
Bring LOTS of money
Plan to hang around Hulett on that Wednesday (8/5). A rather good time is had by all. For those who haven't been yet it's called "No Panty Wednesday" for a reason.
DaddyKnuck - what's up in Sundance that i've been missing??
Essentially the same as Hulett, big street party. The town brings in a big trailer that is used as a burnout pit. Lots of "celebrities" doing burnouts. Lots of ***** and butts. Most years we get lubch in Hulett and hit Sundance on the way back
