Have a safe trip ... I always enjoy your pics. Sounds like you need the break. And you're right, I love riding alone ... especially on a trip like that.
I've got connections in Lolo and Missoula, so was anticipating overnighting there. I rode that route from Great Falls going the opposite direction back in '05 and my recollection was that there wasn't a whole lot between GF and the east entrance to the park...therefore, my goal of making GF for the overnight. It's not a need-to-make stop for me by any means.
Maybe I'll just make what I can of the day and stay wherever I feel like I'm ready to rest once I'm out of the park.
No, there isn't much between East Glacier/St. Mary and Great Falls. Most out of staters don't want to stay in Browning or Heart Butte. Choteau (****. show-doe) isn't that exciting either, but it's a place.
The only thing you may want to think about is hitting Glacier in the afternoon. That will slow you down. In the summer, doing this route from Missoula-Great Falls will be slower than Great Falls-Missoula on the same roads.
Faber, it's ALWAYS good to get the tips from the "locals". I do truly appreciate it. I'm fortunate in that I'm going to be able to just go and not worry too much about where I get or when. If I end up overnighting in Missoula it would make for a late morning arrival at the park (if not mid-day even) but then again, maybe I'll just blaze through Missoula and overnight in Kalispell and be at the park early the next morning.

Doc, it looks like I'll be somewhere back towards the mountains of NC/PA/TN during Thunder on the Mountain this year. It will make only the second one I've missed! And I WILL miss it. It's some of my favorite riding. You can just never get hailed on enough can you? lol
Here's a link to an album with a few photos from the current trip. I'm 11 days in and over 4,500 miles which includes one full day parked at my folks' place.
Plenty of adventure, sights and WEATHER! I got hailed off the road in Wyoming. Pulled under the highway to get fully geared up and it didn't rain on me after that for the rest of the day. That's life on the road though. Got into Nashville Sunday evening and will be around here for a week or so before heading off to Gettysburg for a gethering of the Heritage Springer Owner's Association.
Make sure you take HWY 12 east on Lolo pass into Missola its a great HWY. If you are not pressed for time go up through Hells Cayon to Joseph OR and Enterprise OR take HWY 3 Rattle Snake pass to Lewiston ID its well worth it from Lewiston take Lolo Pass into Misoula. Your trip sounds great and you are free from the work a day world .

I rode 12 out of Lewiston and met some friends at the Lachsa Lodge up at the top of Lolo Pass and spent the night in Lolo before heading off to Glacier the next morning.
I've gotta say, for all the riding I've done in mmy life, Hwy 12 is a definite highlite!!! Spent today riding the Natchez Trace out of Nashville and around the area. Damn I'm going to hate to start working again some day!
Lots of nice roads around Nashville. Spent another day yesterday just cruising. Waiting for a new tire at the local stealership (I run the Metzelers) to arrive. Momma wants a new front shoe!
