Gettysburg trip ideas
Hi all. We are leaving Bruce County Ontario Canada for Gettysburg Pa. We will be crossing into U.S. on Thurs. July 16 at Buffalo. Any suggestions on a scenic route. Kind of want to stay off Interstates if possible. Just a nice easy going ride. We don't have to be in Gettysburg until about noon on Friday. Total distance 520 miles approx. Any help would be appreciated. Ride safe! WIZ

Just got back from Gettysburg Bike Week yesterday and took interstates all the way from southern NY State; no fun but we wanted to get there quick, then enjoy the Gettysburg area roads. To answer your question, try Route 20 eastbound from Buffalo then head down either side of Seneca Lake in the Finger Lakes from the Geneva area. Stay in Watkins Glen overnight; do some riding around that area. Head south from there the next day on 414, then hook into 15 around the Corning area. Proceed in Pennsylvania on 15 all the way to Gettysburg, except you may want to bypass some of the Harrisburg area and hook back into it via Rt. 581. I'll leave the fine points up to you. Have fun.

Well, I am from Shelburne and go down to that area quite a bit. If you cross in Fort Erie and take the interstate to the 219 and take that south it will take you through Ellicotville NY area. Once there you can take a loop around the Allegany State park work your way back to the 219 go south to Dubois PA, there is a real neat HD dealer their. From there go south on 219 go through Punxatawny and stay on 219 until Somerset another good dealer. In Somerset you can pick up the turnpike and head east toward gettysburg which is actually a real nice ride. Good luck.
