the wife and i are planing to ride from new jersey to north carolina, any suggestions on roads,we usally go 95 all the way,but this is her first time riding her own bike down,
Well anytime I've driven between the NJ/NY area and NC, I've taken 95 also, but that was because I was in a hurry and in a cage....
I think anything other than 95 would be better than 95, assuming you're on a bike and want to enjoy the ride, unless you're also in a hurry...
NJ is easy enough to narrow down, but the NC side is a lot more open ended, whatever route anyone could suggest is going to be dependent on how much time you have, and what end of the state you're going to, as one end has you coming down the coast, and one end has you coming down the mountains, or somewhere in between, which is about a 6-8 hour difference east to west...
So if you're going between Raleigh and the coast, the route would be much different than say Charlotte to the mountains...
Also, you say this is the wife's first ride on her own bike, does that mean you don't want any roads too challenging, etc? or is she good to go?
what Karz said.... NC is a big target.....
heading EAST towards the coast? think about US-13 through Delaware, the bay bridge tunnel (although THAT might freak her out)
Central (Raleigh, swinging out through PA, then south through VA
West well... there's always the Blue Ridge Parkway... slow, but pretty
ROANOKE RAPIDS AREA right off 95 i been down 95 witch is ezier cause my wife & i know the road (cager) i really don't like riding a road for the 1st time on a bike,so i guess i'll stick with what i know (too be safe)
Literally just drove cage (kids dont fit on the bike) from Phila to Pittsboro (west of Raleigh) on Sat and came back today. I do this a couple of times per year to visit the inlaws. 95 is fine on the bike with the major issue hitting traffic from DC down to Richmond. That stretch is always backed up. We went 30 miles in 2 hours on Sat from about Quantico (where the HOV lanes merge into the main road) until almost Richmond. We have never done this trip without hitting standstill traffic somewhere in the DC to Richmond stretch. We usually bail and get on Route 1 (Jeff Davis Highway).
