Larry, my hand is extended, my hat is off, my back is bent, I think you are the MAN! At 50, well almost 51, I sometimes wonder through all my aches and Pains, how many Miles I got left in me? You have inspired me to not ever think that way again! I have planned, and replanned an Iron Butt 1,000. I had decided that due to aches and Pains to forget it. Well Brother, I am back to planning again! Thank you so very much. If ever you get back NEAR South Carolina, give me a shout! I have to shake your hand, and buy you a Diet Pepsi, if ya still touch the hard stuff!
Thank you so much for the kind comments--It would be my honor and pleasure to ride and have a Diet Pepsi with you. You may just get an email from me someday. I thought my life was over about 2 1/2 years ago when I lost my wife. http://mywebpage.netscape.com/jular6/MyDarlingJudy.html
I was wrong--Harley Davidson and the new friends I have made gave me a new interest in life--thus my ride
Iron Butt has a 3000 miles in 72 hours--I do have some family in San Francisco--maybe that's next . My ride was one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life--Go for it my friend and if it brings you to Florida, give me a shout--It would be my pleasure to join you.
Larry
Couldn't quit reading the post. If it had been a book, I would have been up all night. My grandfather, then father rode until right up before they each passed away. Grandpa at 72 and Dad way too young at 62. Thanks for sharing those memories with us.
Larry - I don't post very often but read on a daily basis the information and stories on this forum. Your story is one of the best I've ever read and even brought a tear to my eye. As stated you are an inspiration! [sm=hail.gif]
I am taking the riding course in July, have never driven a motorcycle and am a little nervous about it. However, after reading your story, I am totally gung ho and ready to do it!!!!! [sm=happy046.gif]
Thank you for sharing your story and congratulations on finding your new friends in the HD world!
Great story Jular2. That was very impressive my man...you gave me inspiration and hope that I can still have some great adventures in life. I can hardly do a 300 mile ride somedays without wanting to sleep for awhile and here's you doing 1500 miles and such[sm=bounceybounce.gif][sm=hail.gif] and in the rain. You the Man.
Thanks once again to everyone who read and enjoyed my little article--there will me an update sometime in September if I am successful with my next endeavor. I just booked my reservation for Sturgis. I will be leaving Florida on August 5th and this time my planned ride will take me through 27 states and cover 10,000 miles--I should be on the road for a month or so--one of the perks of being retired is having the time to do these things. At age 70 you really can't plan for "next year" so I am going to try to do it now while I still think I can. I don't think I will be doing any Iron Butt runs this time--I am going to stop and smell the roses along the way I think. The again you never know .
If your Sturgis plans will take you up I-94/90 through Wisconsin, send me a PM when you might be in the area. I'm 10 minutes from the Interstate and I would like to meet you.
Larry,
Enjoyed your story-I know exactly where Newmanstown is located!
I live in the Manheim-Lititz area and get into that neck of the woods from time to time.
Post a message the next time you're going to be up there!
