I am in Gatlinburg tn at this moment. They had a Chilie Challenge last nite. Closed off the main street Thousands of folks here partying and having good time. Went to Hogs And Honeys for a brew after the fest. Come every year First week in Nov. Four Seasons is Full of Bikers.
I'd stay away from Pigeon Forge, TN and Gaitlingburg, TN. talk about traffic and people. I liked staying here when I was riding the Tail of the Dragon, smokie mountains, blue ridge parkway. http://www.twowheelinn.com/
it may be a few miles from the smokies but heck you want to ride don't cha.
My wife and I stayed there year before last, they were very nice people that owned the place, The Garages was a nice addon
No, Wheels Thru Time is still in Maggie Valley.. they have a reduced schedule.. check their website for hours.. went there last June..
I was there a few years ago and they were taking up donations to help pay for a new museum in another state. Everyone in my party was very upset when they learned that the museum was moving due to high over head cost in NC. Did their plans change. Can I still see all the antique bikes in NC????
It all depends on if it is a riding vacation or a family vacation! Riding vacation I always rent a cabin around Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge due to it's central location and great places to eat. Sure bet rides are the Cherohala, BRP,The Dragon, Foothills Parkway, State Park hwy 411 and Hwy 28 south. Look at Google maps and you can take a look at the roads before you go. I assume you will ride the BRP down if not consider it because it is the best ride I have ever riden.
I was just there in August. I DID stay in Gatlinburg, mostly because I own a timeshare and there's one right there in town that we stayed at. It was crowded, but some of the restraunts are great. My wife and Mother loved Bubba Gumps, and there's another Mexican place right across from the Harley shop that's really good as well. Tail of the dragon is a must, but you have to ride it on a weekday, when the traffice isn't too bad, BRPKWY is a good ride. There's A LOT of stuff to do in the area, we went whitewater rafting, gambling, riding, eating, drinking, did the Zorb, rode the sky-tram, went horseback riding etc...etc... If you go to my profile a lot of my pictures were from there. You can stop in at any of the tourist's centers, and they'll give you specific bike maps with great rides. There really isn't any "bad rides' in the area. klingman's dome is a must see, which is right in the Great Smokey Mountain National Park. If you've got more questions, feel free to PM me and I'll answer whatever questions you might have.

I totally disagree with this. Gatlinburg is absolutely amazing. I rode it a couple years ago and will go again. It does get a little crowded, but really not that bad. There are a lot of different day trips you can go on as well. We stayed in Gatlinburg and rode out every day witout a problem. Plus there is a lot to do in Gatlinburg.
Alleghney Motel in Sparta, NC. Clean, neat and not too expensive. Biker friendly, rags to wipe off the dew, good people and parking in front of the room. Good sea food restraunt not too far away, couple of blocks, and they serve plenty. Great little breakfast place within shouting distance of the motel. Will stay there if occasion repeats.
