Default Australians touring nevada and elsewhere

Fellow Travellers

A group of us over fifty year olds (yet still, Wild at Heart types), will be touring Navada, Ohio and Arizona early next year. My question relates to `Speed Enforcement' by the local constabulary. Can anyone help (this retired cop) and advise what devices are used by the various state Highway Patrol agencies to enforce speed limits.

Here in Australia we are constantly worried by fixed speed cameras, mobile speed cameras (mounted to covert motor vehicles), marked and unmarked Highway Patrols cars (using KR11 mobile radar and lazer guns). All in all, a little difficult to have fun in these enlightened times.

Do the abovementioned American State Police use similar devices or is a matter of following and checking the speed of offending motorists/cyclists?

Any information/advice will be greatly appreciated.

Regards

A lot of cities have fixed speed cameras.. most intersections are marked before you get to them, you just have to be on the lookout for the signs.. otherwise the Law Enforcement Officers usually have RADAR in their vehicles to catch violators.. very few use the follow and judge method.. The LEO's will conceal their vehicle in any spot they can and then give chase if you are over the limit.. I have been in Nevada where it is 80-100 miles between towns, can see down a staight hiway for 20 miles and still had a State Trooper come from behind out of nowhere to present me with a Welcome to Nevada ticket..

Default Speed devices

Well, here in Nevada most of the police (local and State) use radar and timed devices. Arizona also uses unmanned cameras, you can see them because of the extended antenas. Couple words of caution in Nevada, especially here in Las Vegas, no mercy is shown. If you get caught speeding, you will be ticketed. Even by the motorcycle cops. Also riding in 'Vegas is a challenge, the cagers have absolutely no respect for bikers, especially on the freeways. When we go riding we try to get out of town as quickly as possible.

Now for the positive side there are some really great rides around 'Vegas both day and longer trips. The weather is generally cooperative all year round, what months are you planning to visit? You will have a great time, and enjoy your visit.
