My wife and I, along with a couple friends are wanting ideas for a spring/early summer road trip. We live in Oregon and would like to travel at least a few states east or south. Looking for a MC run to go to in the process... Preferably someplace other than Sturgis. We are life-long bikers and are seasoned on the road.
We have been all over the west, but would love to expand our horizons. Any suggestions?
I have to agree with the others that mentioned the Beartooth and Yellowstone. It was unbelievable and unforgettable. Also on your way there ride through Montana and the Road to the Sun in Glacier Nat'l park. I love that trip too. I just missed the Beartooth Rally this Summer but it's apparently quite the event. I plan to attend in 2010.
Hard to beat the Oregon and northern California coast. I did the PCH a couple years ago and really loved it.
Of course I'm a big fan of Utah (especially the southern part, where I live) and I don't think you can go wrong with all the parks/mountains we have around here.
Really early spring (March to mid-April) is ideal for a Death Valley run. I've gone twice, once in November and once in March. Both times it was 85+ in the Valley, which was really great considering it was 34 when I left southern Utah. I would not do that run after the first of May, though I know folks who have. And summer is definitely a no-go for me and DV.
How far south are you willing to go? I've done Sedona, AZ, a couple times in the spring and it is a good ride. It's another place I'm not sure I'd go in mid-summer, but some of our AZ riding buddies might disagree. I know for me that in spring and fall it is a really nice ride.
Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons are two of my favorite spots for the Idaho/Wymoning area. I also really like the Bitterroot Range in eastern Idaho and the Bitterroot Forest in western Montana.
+1 on the Glacier National Park trip. If you go, the Road to the Sun is a must! There are a few majestic places in this country.....this one is underrated in my opinion. Of course traveling through Yellowtone on your way to Jackson Hole, Wyoming will never be forgotten.
Great suggestions here! We were actually tossing around the idea of Yellowstone right before I started this post. I will have to research the Beartooth Run. I will report back.

I hadn't considered Utah yet, but being originally from Colorado I know it is pretty beautiful there. As far as AZ goes, I love Arizona (lived 14 years there) but having lived there we really wanted something different.
I agree with the Pacific Coast Hwy riding... If any of you ever get to the Redwood Forest during June, the Redwood Run is one of the best out there.
Looked at the Beartooth Rally on their website. That looks like it may be the ticket...
Have you guys been to the rally in Baker City in June? That's a good rally with several very nice poker runs. Also through eastern Oregon into Idaho Falls, Idaho (Craters of the Moon National Monument) and east towards Alpine Junction, Wyoming and then north through the Tetons and into the Yellowstone country is great riding. Late spring and early summer weather may still be unsettled. Check the posts under the Yellowstone thread. Also, what part of Oregon are you folks from?
