Are you making this a guy's only trip cause if you are leave Vegas and go to Pahrump then head to Baker then to L.A. . Legal Brothels in Pahrump and even if you don't partake in the festivities there are souvenirs to be had that are better'n any HD tee. They filmed that HBO series at the Moonlight Bunny Ranch in Pahrump.

Vegas:

-Do you have reservation for Vegas already???
-Points of interest on road trip from Vegas to L.A... The border line indian casino/shopping mall (outlet mall) 20 min from Vegas on your way to L.A., The Mad Greek in Baker, CA (great shakes and Burguers), hmmm can't think of anything else...
-Dinner at the "Mix" http://www.mandalaybay.com/dining/mix.aspx make sure you make reservations. Roof top of the Mandalay Bay hotel.
-Blow some steam at the "gun store" (in-door shooting range) they have rentals, they have everything http://www.thegunstorelasvegas.com/
-Harley Davidson Las Vegas (Sahara Av.)
-Gamble in the small casinos (where you will eventually win) forget about gambling in big fancy hotel-casinos, those are for pics and walking only...
-The Hoover dam...

L.A.:

-I wouldn't know even where to start, 2 daze is nothing for the L.A. area so I'll reccomend just my favorite place (my friend owns the place) for dinner (make reservation) even with a reservation be prepared to wait sipping a beer or a margarita (the bartenders are anything but cheap, their drinks are heavily loaded) in their lobby (packed with the most gorgeous gals in town, dressed to kill), the wait is worthy BELIEVE ME, the food is awesome, you won't regret it. It is called Javier's Cantina (there are 3 but my favorite is the one in Crystal Cove right by PCH) http://www.javiers-cantina.com/ If you decide to book for dinner there, send me a PM and I'll drop your name with one of the guys taking the reservations.

Good luck and have a blast.

I took this "scenic route" from Vegas to LA two years ago:

South on 93 to Kingman, AZ...stop and check out the Hoover Dam on the way.

West on 68. South on 95 to Needles, CA and on to Vidal Jct. There's a great little greasy spoon on the right at the intersection of 95 & 62.

62 west towards Twentynine Palms and Palm Springs. You'll pass by the giant windmill farm about 10 miles from I-10.

I-10 to Cabazon. The giant dinosaurs from "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure" are here. Exit I-10 at Banning on CA-243. This is one of the coolest, most scenic and twisty mountain roads I've ever been on. Take 243 to Idyllwild and Mountain Center.

Pick up 74 at Mountain Center and head west. 74 will merge with I-215 N for about 3 miles, but exit for 74 West. This will take you right into San Juan Capistrano.

Not sure where in LA proper you are staying, but you can pick up PCH in SJ Capistrano and head north to the beaches, Hollywood, etc.

Vegas to LA is pretty blah...I live in Arizona and have traveled these roads. I do like the desert but...For me and because of the weather in Jan, might be a good idea to go with the car. The high desert can get pretty cold and you never know when it will snow or rain. If you drive out to LA, you can always rent a bike for the day and cruise up and down PCH.
Whatever you choose, good luck have fun and be safe...

If you're goal is to spend some time in LA, perhaps the convertable would be better for the trip... or maybe a flight from LV to LA (about 1hr $120us round trip per person) then rent car or bike in LA for sight seeing.
...BTW, not mentioned as a stop between Vegas and LA is Calico Ghost town near Barstow...

If you're goal is to ride out of Vegas for some riding and touring, but not necessary to go to LA... consider Laughlin, NV. Then route 66 thru Oatman, AZ to Kingman, and continue 66 to Peach Springs, AZ and on to Seligman (historic route 66 town). Then you can return via I-40.

Or (not sure about weather, might be too cold/snow) head to ZION Natl Park. North of Vegas you can take SR-169 thru the Vally of Fire State Park.

Your route from Twenty Nine Palms to San Juan Capistrano Via Idylwild and the Ortega Hwy is a great ride. It's an all day ride but great. I have to say though the ride going to twenty Nine palms on the 62 sucks . You can have that part of the ride. Sorry been there done that.

Most of those places are best seen on weekends when all the bikes are there so plan accordingly. Of course the canyons, coast and beaches are always beautiful.

What part of Canada are you from? I ask because I recently had a Canadian rider contact me about taking the Ride Like a Pro West Coast course. He mentioned the same thing, a quick weekend trip out of Las Vegas. Are you him by chance?

Not me...I from Wpg Mb Central Canada.some great suggestions too..thanks

Excellent! I was gonna suggest a "local-profile" hotel/casino (I've had it with payin' for fancy hotels to crash, stay only once in each hotel, just to say been there done that, etc.)... When I'm not in the mood to try a new hotel I stay in the "Palace Station" (good for gambling, good food and clean rooms for 60+ tax, sometimes lower per night, same chain than than the Sunset Station). Not on the strip but pretty close.
