Going to rode trip to Deadwood & Yellowstone in mid may . How many days do I need in Deadwood to see the sites? Need to know so I can reserve campsite in Yellowstone . Also need a campground in Deadwood .
Not much to see in Deadwood but Casinos. You can go to Mile High Cemetery, but I would recommend the trolley over the scoot. I did it on a Softail Custom and it is straight up. I would not do it on my Street Glide. Saloon #10 is OK, but it's not the original place that Wild Bill was shot, that's up the street.
Personally I think you could do it all in one day easy, unless you want to do some of the runs like Spearfish Canyon, the Pigtails, Mt. Rushmore.
To me, there is more to see outside of Deadwood than in it.
What I meet was the sites around Deadwood;Spearfish Canyon, the Pigtails, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse ? Sorry. Stay in the Deadwood area and see the sites? Going to be in a motorhome towing Street Glide . I know ,the wife won't ride the miles we plan on doing.
If ya get an early start- each day- 2 days. There is lots of riding and a few spots to stop and look. Hill city is nice- m/c museum in sturgis + the regulars- pig tail- spearfish cyn-.

We thought in your original post you were riding to Yellowstone in May. Never can tell about the weather there that time of year. We rode through last July, late in the month, and hit thunderstorms with dime-sized hail and temps dropping into the upper 40's! You might check this link out from time to time for updates. Enjoy the West!
a few hours in deadwood is plenty. near deadwood stay at the nemo guest ranch. it is the best campground I've ever been at. right by a river, original restaurant and bar from the 1940s VERY nice owners and an all around cool place. ride spearfish canyon, von accor canyon, see crazy horse, ride iron mountain road and needles highway. mebey do the wildlife loop in custer park. 2 days to see these highlits. black hills are great, deadwood not so much. Just outside of yellowstone thier is a nice campground just outside of the Roosevelt entrance overlooking the town of Gardiner. stay out of the town of west yellowstone it both sucks and blows. enjoy some of the best scenery and riding in the country!
I would re-think your time of going! To much uncertain weather in may! I was their this past June 3--- and we had snow and ICE in Deadwood and I say SNOW and ICE temps in the afternoons were up to the mid to upper 30's. On our way through WYO stayed in Ranchester b4 crossing the Big Horn Mtns rain mot of the way here in lower elevations bu at 6k feet SNOW!! I of course the sides of the road had 5-7 FEET of snow left from the winter but sine we were having NO luck! it SNOWED from 6K feet up anf over the BIG HORNS! we rode in 4" of fresh snow of course it had been warm enough that it didnt begin sticking to the edges of the road until we stopped at the summit to warm up!! 17 deg!! we scraped the snow/ice off the bikes and headed down with snow till 6k feet on the way down..........large marble sized hail between CODY and the EAST entrance into Yellowstone..Road construction throughout the area around Yellowstone is a mess due to mud this early in the spring........but good luck take an ice scraper and snow boots!!

You can see everything there is to see in Deadwood in a half a day, however like others have mentioned there is lots to see in that area, Needles hwy, Bad Lands, Custer National Park, Mt Rusmore, and lots of great riding roads. To see what I've metioned you'll probably want at least 3-4 days in the area. I would try to camp closer to Rapid City to be more central to the sights. I camped at Rafter J Bar Ranch which is real close to Mt Rusmore.
