Default 2010 HOG National Rides

I'm thinking about registering for the HOG Route 66 ride in September. I've never done one of the national rides and would appreciate hearing from any one who's ever been out on one of these.
I know you don't ride en masse, but are they well organized, are there decent events along the way, etc.
Any advice is appreciated!

They cost too much! Heck you pay them $300 or more and still need to pay for the motels, and most of your food.

they are well organized, but you must make your own arrangements for lodging. Friend did a posse ride a few years back and had a good time...try and find out where the MOCO guys are staying and book a room there, then you're at the party when you park your bike for the nite.

i have been on a couple of their sponsered rides and have had fun.. Everynight we stopped at a dealership and was given dinner..Usually the dealership had some kind of entertainment..This is HOG.. no wet t-shirt contest.. no pervert row..The most I got out of it was meeting and riding with some great people across a great country..

I did Riding the Rockies 07. Great experience. Met some great people. I like the format of not riding en mass. Rutroo is right; family atmosphere, which is great because I typically ride with one of my kids on the back. My son was the youngest HOG member at RTR 07.
