I'm planning a trip from San Diego to Colorado and back in a few months, will meet up with my childhood friend who lives in the Denver area. I've never owned a movie camera because my bride of 36 years and I haven't been blessed and/or cursed with children and therefore never felt the need to document anything with video. Now I'm wondering if a movie camera would be fun to record parts of our trip from Grand Junction down through Ouray, Silverton and Durango and eastward to Pueblo before we part ways and I head to Albuquerque and back west to the land of fruits and nuts and he back to Denver, The Mile High City.
So, I know nothing about movie cameras but I hear tell that you can get cameras that record in 1080P HD and in small "form factors"...relatively small size box I guess. I'm a clean slate in this department....I need suggestions pro and con, brands, models, types, mounts, etc.
I have a Sony Hard disk recorder. It's nice, very good picture, great sound. By today's standard it is pretty bulky. But I would consider one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Aiptek-1080P-D.../dp/B0019BPTMI. It is very compact, and you can easily carry several flash (sd) cards. This seems a good idea.

After doing alot of research finally settled on the Gopro Hd helmet cam. Can't believe how tiny it is. Got the handlebar and chest mount strap. Haven't had a chance to try it out yet but from most accounts I won't be disappointed.
We bought the new high definition GoPro Hero camera and are so glad we did. This little camera takes beautiful video pictures, color and clarity are superb. We had tried to use a Panasonic HD camcorder, but it could not handle the vibration while mounted to the handlebars of either the Road King or the Deluxe. Not so with this camera; even at idle with the handlebars bobbing up and down on the Road King, the video is still very smooth. Once you get moving, excellent! We use the Ram Mount brand to mount the GoPro but are looking at some other mounts from the site noted below. Good Luck! Check out this site for a lot of great information about this camera.
I have a VHoldr 1080p contourhd. It comes with helmet attachments, but you can use many kinds. For such a small and self contained camera I have found it to work really well.

have been interested in it, but vibration seems to be the biggest detractor of handlebar mounted cameras. how about posting a video from your handlebar mount?
