I'm another big fan of Chippewa's. I have pair for work and pair for play. They are the lace up short style steel and non steel toes.

YES they do have lug soles and and YES they do grip the road really well.

I get them from a small local cash only discount place so I can't help with a dealer.

That said I have to say I wouldn't recommend them on their own for a long trip.

That isn't what any work boot is made for so you can't expect them to perform that way.

Hell most HD style "motorcycle boots" are made more for looks then function, so you can look like a lot of the other pirate's out on the road (no offence intended to any pirates )

They are great for all around work and play but what your looking for is a
motorcycle boot specifically made for riding motorcycles in all kinds of conditions with the features needed to protect your feet when riding a motorcycle.

I have the same boots. GREAT riding boots! Feet stay dry and comfortable on long haul trips. Can't reccomend them enough. Really good choice.

 

Check out danner boots. I have a pair of hikers that are 12 years old and still water proof. I just bought a pair of they're tactical type boots for riding and love them also. They are a bit pricey but if you take care of them they will last forever.

 

Mule, not sure if anyone has suggested this yet, but I strongly recommend CruiserWorks boots. They are EXPENSIVE $300+, but I have been wearing mine since 2000 and just replaced them this year (9 years of good wear). They are the absolute best in terms of being waterproof. I have ridden in rainstorms that would knock your socks off but stayed bone dry without any covering on the boots. No real maintenance involved either, in fact they suggest you not coat them with anything. Check out their website. They're great to work with too. For an average of $30/year I was OK with the up-front cash out and bought another pair.

I second DannyZ71's comments... I use REDWING motorcycle boots I believe the style is 417 or 410 my local store has them, though I don't see them at http://redwingshoes.com/. I like them because they have Goretex and are 100% waterproof, other features I can't remember but work well. I put well over 15,000 miles on them last season and rode in complete downpours for hours at a time and NEVER were my feet/socks damp at all. The Goretex does just that, keeps them warm in cool/colder weather, while cool and comfortable in warm/hot weather... Below are mine, I do NOT use the steel toe/carbon kind... The ONLY thing I did not care for with them is the stitching is WHITE... I had them apply black boot polish on the seams which made them black... I also removed the Goretex tag, they have a nice Vibram anti-slip, non-marking sole for sure footing... It takes several days and hours of riding in the rain for the black polish to slightly wear off the seams... basically I bring them in 3 times a year for a FREE "tune up" new laces, apply black polish to the seams and polish the boots themselves... along with a request for an extra set of laces, never can tell when you're thousands of miles away from home when one might break, it has NOT happened to me, though I have them replaced at the end of the season and once every 3 months during riding season... When I stopped by the store last month, they were still selling the boots... Mine still look good as new... Included in the price is the following, ask for the contractors discount and they may extend the 10% discount...
