Southern Utah Tips
Want proof ... look at this ... Ugly! Who would want to ride around here?

Okay, it's not so bad ...
The pic above was taken just north of the Virgin River Gorge. You'll probably go through the gorge on the way to St George. Slow down through the Virgin River Gorge and look for the mountain goats.
Here's a shot about 10 minutes SE of my house ... it sure sucks to live here!

Stop at Zion HD and say "Hi" to all the good folks there.
If you like to hike then park your bike and take the tram into Zion NP. You'll see some good stuff from the bike, but the best stuff is on the trails. No parking in the park, unless you have a reservation at the lodge.
Some of the best spots (in my opinion) are just off the main roads. The following is about 1/8th mile off Utah 14 just west of Duck Creek.

Here's one just off Highway 12 near Boulder, UT, at about 7500 feet:

And about 8500 feet east of Cedar City, UT ...

I know this is an ATV shot (and it's my ATV at that) but it's right outside of Cedar City, and I like the shot ...

A couple folks mentioned Cedar Breaks ... see if this is something you'd like ...

This is the Parowan Gap ... north of Cedar City.

Of course I'm only showing you the ugly spots.
Be sure to enjoy Vegas while you're there too...
I can't wait to get back..

The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
Hwy 15 from Vegas to Hurricane is no fun, but a git 'r dun ride that quickly gets you to some of the best riding in the Country. Keep an eye on the double jacked trucks, some wander the road at 90mph.
From Hurricane, Zion is around the corner. The ride from Zion to Bryce Canyon is outstanding. I usually stay at the Bryce Country Cabins.
Hwy 12 through Escalante, 24 to Capital Reef, 95 through Glenn Canyon, 191 Up to Moab - Wicked amazing country!
Leaving Moab in the AM gives time to drop down 191 and backtrack 95 to Natural Bridges, then down 261. You'll go by the Valley of the Gods, and as tempting as it is I don't recommend anyone not experienced in riding a motorcycle in loose sand to try that out. I rode a loaded ultra through there and while beautiful, sucked the seat up more than a few times.. Of note, my starter wasn't working when I went in, but was when I came out.. It was healed!!!

Mexican Hat to Monument Valley down 163 (worth a stop). Over to Page, then up and around to the North Rim of the Canyon (nothing like a morning cup of coffee looking out into the Canyon). Then a git-r-dun ride back to Vegas.
A few tips... Utah has odd drinking laws - be prepared. Keep liquids on the bike. Pay attention to gas stops. Take a camera!! The critters come out at night, avoid the roads. Pack for Hot, Cold, Hot, Cold...
Enjoy the ride!
Day 1 = Sin City, NV to Virgin, UT (kind of an odd match, huh?) Head east out of Vegas on 515 which turns into US-93 to Boulder City. Check out the Hoover Dam. Its awesome. Backtrack about 5 miles from the dam and turn right on Lakeshore Dr. This is also NV-167/169. This road follows the Lake Mead shoreline and is really fun. Youll pass by Valley of Fire state park and eventually end up in the Moapa Valley and the town of Overton. NV-169 intersects I-15 here. Take I-15 north through the Virgin River Gorge, past St. George to exit #16 (UT-9). Take UT-9 east to Virgin. 199 miles.
Day 2 = Virgin, UT Page, AZ. Take UT-9 east into Zion National Park. Park the bike. Take the shuttle into the canyon. Enjoy! Continue on UT-9 through the park to Mt. Carmel Junction and US-89. Take a right (south) to Kanab, UT and on to Fredonia, AZ. Pick up US-89A in Fredonia and stay on it to Jacob Lake, Across Marble Canyon on the Navajo Bridge and along the Vermillion Cliffs until you T at US-89. Take it north to Page, AZ. 173 Miles.
Day 3 = Page, AZ Hanksville, UT. This is a riding day. Awesome roads and scenery! Take AZ-98 southeast from Page towards Kaibito. This road is desolate and reminds me of what Mars would be like. At the intersection of AZ-160, turn left (north) to Kayenta, AZ. Merge left onto US-163 N to Monument Valley. Stop and take some photos. Youll recognize the landscape if youve ever watched the old Westerns. The roads in the park are really sandy. I wouldnt try to navigate too far into it. Continue on US-163 to Mexican Hat, UT. Hang a left outside of town on UT-261. Dont let the Moki Dugway intimidate you take your time and enjoy the view at the top you just climbed to the top of the Colorado Plateau! UT-261 intersects UT-95. Natural Bridges National Monument is right here. Id check it out if I were you. Continue northwest on UT-95 through White Canyon. Stop at the end of the canyon to check out the northern end of Lake Powell. Bring your swim trunks! Keep north to Hanksville, UT. 274 Miles.
Day 4 = Hanksville, UT Cedar City, UT. Take UT-24 west towards Torrey. Youll pass right through Capitol Reef National Park. At Torrey, head south on UT-12 to Boulder, Escalante, through the Grand Staircase National Monument and eventually to Bryce Canyon National Park. Youll ride the razorback on this stretch. You might want to stop at Calf Creek (just north of Escalante) for a rest and to check out the waterfalls. Definitely go to Bryce Canyon. Continue west on UT-12 through Red Canyon to US-89. Turn right (north) on US-89 to Panguitch. Turn left on UT-143. Ride along Panguitch Lake and climb to Cedar Breaks National Monument (I think its an official National Park now). Turn left on UT-148 and ride through Cedar Breaks. Turn right on UT-14 and roll down into Cedar City, UT. 234 Miles.
Day 5 = Cedar City, UT Las Vegas, NV. Well, thats it. Get on I-15 and head south to Vegas. 175 Miles.
I think this route gives you the most bang for the buck. Yeah, it skips the Moab area, but youll see a really diverse landscape, not to mention 4 National Parks, 2 National Monuments and some really fun and scenic roads. Ride safe and have fun!
I made you a Google Map, too: http://www.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF...f81c30&t=h&z=8
