Keep in mind at least one lane will remain closed, and with the traffic volume of I-40, that will be a pretty good bottleneck, I would imagine. There are other routes that are better rides, check your atlas when traveling east/west between Western NC and Eastern Tennessee, and the detour traffic may be better as well.
