Default US 35 From WVA North West

Going to Sturgis, first time. Google maps has one of the preferred routes taking us onto 35 NW in Charleston,WV toward Peoria. Looks like it would keep us out of St. Louis and or Chicago. Any recommendations? Is this a good way to go? Approximate Route would be I -64 W from S/E Va to US35, up through Davenport and finally I-90 West.

Thanks!

I'm familiar with that route from Lex. VA to Dayton Ohio. You will exit I 64 west of Charleston WV and will find a very nice new four lane that will turn back to two lane in approx. 10 miles. The two lane portion of 35 is OK except since they're going to replace it to join the four lane you just got off of they are not maintaining it any more than they have to; therefore the berm edges of the road are rough from the heavy truck traffic. Take your time on this section and be patient, it only lasts about 25 miles and you will be back on a nice four lane. Smooth riding from there to Dayton. Have a safe trip and enjoy.

Thank you, hotshoe. Will 35 be 4 lanes until I get to IL?

No, but most of it will be a principal highway. You might want to consider taking 35 to Dayton and then getting on I 75north to I 70 west just north of Dayton. From there I would travel I 70 west to Indianapolis and take I 465 south around Indy. On the west side of Indy you can pick up I 74 which will take you right to Peoria. This is assuming you want to travel Interstate Highways.

That's sounds like a better way. Thanks again. Yea, going to Sturgis, so don't have travel time to tool around. Interstates as much as possible!
