Just got back from Vegas / Grand Canyon last week. Had a fantastic time! We stayed right in the Park at the Grand Canyon Lodge and were happy with it. I was surprised at how large the park is so plan a little more time to get through it than you may have thought. (it was my first time there) They have had some fires in the area so be sure to check on that status before you leave. Not sure there will be an impact as far as your ride is concerned but there are thousands of acres burning and making some trouble for the local towns. We had a power outage at the restaurant we were at..took a while to get some lunch. Otherwise all we saw of the fire was the smoke plume from a distance! Route 66 between Kingman and Seligman is all I was able to collect, but it was worth the trip! Lots of open space to roll on the power! Have fun and be safe!

In Williams, across the street from the Motel 6 and cattycorner to Vons is a nice diner for breakfast or lunch, very biker friendly. The Harley dealer between Williams and Flagstaff is a cool stop. The diner across the parking lot from the dealer has the original "No Vacancy" sign from Easy Rider. The motel from the movie was real close to where the dealer now is. I've done a lot of Rt. 66 and the absolute best section is from Seligman to Kingman. It's very good pavement and won't add but a few minutes to the ride compared to I-40. You'll both love it.

Hey C Clamp --- Here's what I did back in May. I'm from PA. Had a sales meeting in Scottsdale & rented a bike in Phx. Rode up to Kingman, over to Oatman on 66, back & stayed overnight in Kingman. Oatman was cool. Gotta stop for awhile if you pass through. Took 40 over to Williams & up to the Canyon. Got off 40 & took in some 66 near Seligman, on the way over. Rode to Flagstaff & down 89A to Sedona. 89A & Sedona were practically the highlight of the trip. DON'T MISS OUT ON ROUTE 89A, DOWN FROM FLAGSTAFF. (Did you happen to notice the bold type?!!!) What a cool ride. If you can, ride DOWN 89A to Sedona. North to Flagstaff from Sedona would be a great ride too, but DOWN, heading south, would be better. Stayed overnight in Sedona that night.

I had planned on 89A before I went out, but I didn't know about the canyon & twisties on that road, until I got there. I was very pleasantly surprised & had a blast going down 89A. Gotta do it. You'll know what I mean when you get there!

I would say the 191, but I am a little biasd since I live right up the road. If you take the 191 make a stop at Hannagan's meadow, south of Alpine, nice little lunch stop.
