Going to do the iron butt saddle sore 1000 Friday. Leaving Ellensburg, WA at 3am riding to Yreka, CA and returning. 4 of us on this adventure, should be fun. 2 Ultra's, one road king, one dyna. Hopefully the stress factor wont kick in until late in the ride, should be home about dark if all goes well.
Have a good time with your friends on you Butt. Did a certificate one last summer and just did two in one week last month. Not prob for the Ultra guys, little tougher for the RK and gonna be far from nice for the Dyna guy.
Well the ride is complete, good weather except for the horrendous wind in the Columbia Gorge. Everyone made it, although the Dyna rider was a hurtin' puppy. Missed all the traffic and construction so made fairly good time (19 1/2 hours). took 20 min gas stops and 1 hour for lunch. Starting out it felt like WTF are we doing, but when it was over, that was easy. Net year it's time for the bun burner gold (1500 miles in 24 hours). I recommend this ride, when it's over, piece of cake.

Seriously? The RK and the Ultra are basically the same bike! Just a whole lot more accessories on the Ultra. The first of May my husband and I did our SS 1000 in 17 hours finishing that day at 1065 in 18 hours. Went on from there to do 4300 additional miles in 11 days. Him on his E Glide and me on my Road King. I have ridden both bikes and other than a little more wind protection, found no difference in the ride.
Its funny - I didn't find anything tough about the RK. The only difference is that the RK is MUCH cooler! Of course - I am biased!!
It does feel good. I am already planning the bun burner gold for the next iron butt. Lost my riding buds after this one (puzzies). Either going to Mpls, MN to see a buddy I haven't seen in years, or doing a loop to Butte, Salt Lake and back. 1500 mi in 24 hr need to average 70.2 mph moving time. Will be a lot tougher, but looking forward to it.

Congrats by the way on your 1000. Happy for you! And you guys are right - it does feel good!(especially after all said and done!)
BunBurner Gold.. Extreme.. Might be a good thing todo this one alone.. Extra people can slow your gas stop dramatically. You sound like you know what you're doing , but I'm gonna throw some tips your way just the same....Hydrate...Hydrate . I start a week before the ride and try to drink at least a gallon of water a day..and of course drink plenty of fluids during your ride..I like to snack while I ride.. trail mix, jerky and Lemon drops to keep my mouth busy...Try to plan your gas stops..Break it down into 8 little 200 mile rides .My goal for gas stops has always been ramp to ramp in under 10 minutes..And most important..safety first. Good Luck..
